Notice of Planned Interruption

Periodically, scheduled interruptions are required to safely perform required maintenance and upgrades on our system. These infrequent interruptions are intended to be of short duration, and the work we do is designed to minimize unplanned outages to our customers in Greater Sudbury and West Nipissing. When an outage is planned for your area, we endeavor to give you adequate notice so you can make any arrangements you deem necessary.

Outage Tip: Please ensure that computerized equipment is turned off prior to the interruption of services. Most cordless phones will not operate during a power interruption. It’s a good idea to keep cell phones fully charged.

Unplanned Outages and/or Interruptions

Unexpected power outages can be caused by a number of factors. Some of these include loss of feeder supply to our distribution system, equipment trouble, natural occurrences such as poor weather conditions or wildlife interference, or human interference such as vehicle accidents or dig-ins.

Did you know?  A dig in is where underground cables get damaged by individuals who accidentally dig into them. This can lead to a power outage and damage to distribution system equipment. Cable failures are difficult and timely to repair.

Do you have plans to dig into the ground? It’s the law. You must call for a locate. ON1Call It is for your safety and everyone near by.

Interruptions in electrical service may last a few seconds or a few hours, depending on the cause. There are two main types of power outages, planned or scheduled outages, and unplanned outages.
