When our business structure changed in January 2000, we were no longer a Commission. Instead, GSU became a business corporation under the rules of the Ontario Business Corporations Act. We are governed by a Board of Directors, appointed by our Shareholder, the City of Greater Sudbury.

Three members of CGS Council and four community members sit on the Boards of both Greater Sudbury Utilities and Greater Sudbury Hydro.

Mark Signoretti – Councillor, Ward 1

Board Chair– Greater Sudbury Utilities & Subsidiary Companies, Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc.

Sudbury has always been Mark’s home; he was born and raised here, was educated at Cambrian College and Laurentian University, and chose Sudbury as the best place to raise his own family.  Mark is the owner and lead financier of an equipment financing company.

René Lapierre – Councillor, Ward 6

Vice-Chair – Greater Sudbury Utilities & Subsidiary Companies, Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc.

As a paramedic, René has provided front-line pre-hospital care for 23 years. In 2002 he became a full-time professor, and since 2007 he has been the Program Coordinator for Collège Boréal’s Paramedic Program.

Kristine Morrissey, BCom, CA

Director & Treasurer – Greater Sudbury Utilities & Subsidiary Companies

Kristine was appointed President of Cambrian College in spring 2023. Prior to this, she held the position of Vice President, International, Applied Research, Finance and Administration. She has held various leadership roles on a local, provincial and national level. She has completed a Masters Certificate in Risk Management from the Schulich Executive Education Centre. 

Josh Lilley, P.Eng, MBA

Director – Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc.

Josh is a professional engineer (electrical) with fourteen years of experience.  He has worked for Hatch since 2001 on various sized projects in the mining sector across North America.

Valerie Richer

Director – Greater Sudbury Utilities & Subsidiary Companies

Valerie is a member of Atikameksheng Anishinabek, a lawyer, mediator, and former Chief. She served in various positions such as legal counsel for the Assembly of First Nations, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and the Indian Claims Commission. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa and has a B.A. from Laurentian University.

Natalie Labbée- Councillor, Ward 7

Natalie is a passionate, dynamic and engaged community leader with experience in Volunteer Management, Community events planning, and Administration for over 28 years. Natalie has lived in Greater Sudbury since 2014 and is currently the Assistant Manager at a Seniors Active Living Centre. 

Christina Visser, P.Eng., MBA, CEM

Director – Greater Sudbury Utilities & Subsidiary Companies

 Christina is a Professional Engineer and Certified Energy Manager.  She is an entrepreneur and the CEO of the Sudbury-based Ionic Technology Group.  She has been proud to make Sudbury her home since 1995. 

Jhonel MorvanEAO, M.Ed., Ph.D. Cand.

Director – Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc.

Jhonel has an extensive background in education in Canada and internationally. He has joined the Sudbury French catholic school board (CSC Nouvelon), as a Superintendent of Education, since November 2021.

Martin Lajeunesse

Director – Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc.

Born and raised in Sudbury, Martin studied political science at the University of Ottawa. He was the co-executive director at the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario for eight years and was one of the cofounders of the Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury. He now works on economic development policy.

Kati McCartney, MSc, MBA, EP

Director & Treasurer – Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc.

After moving to Sudbury in 2006, Kati fell in love with the North and immersed herself in our community working, studying and volunteering with organizations throughout our community including Laurentian, Vale, Cambrian and Science North. Kati is currently the President of FROSKR, an Environmental Services and Technology Company

André Thibert

Director – Greater Sudbury Utilities & Subsidiary Companies

André is retired from Desjardins Caisse Populaire Hanmer, where he was the General Manager. He has served on many local and provincial Boards related to respective cultural, economics, and community development sectors. He is graduate of the University of Ottawa and Laurentian University.
